a friendly reminder

I have never met Lenzi, but we have several mutual friends, and although I've never met her in real life, I think she is so sweet :)  I started following her blog several months ago.  Several days ago she posted a blog about Andy Rooney's final commentary on 60 minutes.  I loved what she had to say about it so I thought I'd share.  Sometimes I need to be reminded of this myself.
My favorite line was "I've done a lot of complaining here, but of all the things I've complained about, my life isn't one of them."

So here's a friendly reminder to me and to you:

Create a life for yourself that you'll never have to complain about.

Relax. Take chances. Go places. Have lots of fun.
Be kind. Do what you love to do.
The rest always takes care of itself.

Broccoli Cheese Soup

Who jumped up and down this morning because it was cold outside??? ME! I have on long sleeves, skinny jeans, and boots today and it feels soooo good! I hope this weather is here to stay, but I am sure warm days will come again soon.

Since fall weather has made an appearance today it was the perfect chance to make a pot of soup...just something about cold weather and pulling out the soup pot! One of my best friends shared this recipe with me for Broccoli Cheese Soup. We made it for a soup lunch we were working and it was the first soup to sell out. I'm sure there are other good recipes out there, but this one is yummy and EASY!

Broccoli Cheese Soup

4 chicken bouillon cubes
1 1/2 quarts water
2 1/2 cups diced potatoes
1 cup diced celery (optional)
1/2 cup diced onion
1 20 oz. frozen chopped broccoli
2 cans cream of chicken
1 lb. Velveeta, diced

Bring cubes, water, potatoes, celery, and onion to a boil. Turn down and cook for 20 minutes. Add broccoli and cook 10 minutes. Add soup and cheese. Turn to low and stir until cheese is melted.

By the way, I have a new niece :) Mia Margaret was born Monday morning at 8:19 AM. She was 8 lbs, 10 oz and is just adorable! She gets a post dedicated to herself soon!

cute classroom inspiration feature!

About a month ago I "met" Melanie Ralbusky, designer and creator of Schoolgirl Style.  I like to say that we have a lot in common.  Melanie is a teacher and self-taught decorator who "has a passion for decorating and all things pretty".  We both came from a building background so we appreciate good design! Because of her love of all things teaching and decorating she created a classroom decorating site.

"While searching the web, Melanie came across several blogs related to party decorating and this instantly gave Melanie an idea…she needed to create a classroom decorating site for teachers! Melanie would use her talents to create classroom themes that were cute, trendy and stylish, as well as design her own coordinated tags, nameplates, and banners to give classrooms a designer look. This seemed to balance Melanie’s two loves; teaching and decorating, thus the creation of Schoolgirl Style! Melanie believes that your classroom should reflect who you are as an individual and a teacher. A thoughtful, organized, and “put together” classroom exudes excitement and enthusiasm for your profession. It is important to create a learning environment where children feel celebrated and enjoy coming each day. Melanie is excited to help teachers with their decorating dilemmas and offer classroom decorating inspiration to teachers everywhere!"
Now to those of you that aren't teachers and don't follow teaching blogs, this doesn't mean much to you, but I have a confession to make.  I AM ADDICTED TO TEACHING BLOGS.  Within the past few months I have subscribed to at least 20 teaching blogs - they are such a great resource for teachers!  And Melanie's blog is one of those :)  Such cute inspiration!

So, the point of introducing you to Melanie...

This sweet lady featured my classroom on her blog today as one of her "Cute Classroom Inspirations"!  I was so excited that she chose mine as one to feature and of course I want to share the news with you!  Just click on the button below :)
